Brief History of Company
Warid Telecom
is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Group & SingTel Group. Abu Dhabi
Group entered into a strategic alliance with Singapore Telecom. Subsequent to
this transaction in May 23 (2005), telecom giant SingTel acquired 30% percent
equity stake in Warid Telecom, Pakistan, for US$758 million. This partnership
is part of a strategy to support Warid Telecom’s continued growth and to
enhance its market position.
Abu Dhabi Group, one of the largest business groups in the Middle East and the single largest foreign investor in Pakistan. It has diversified business interests, Bank alfalah Ltd, Wateen Telecom, Al-razi health care, Alfalah Insurance etc group offering strong financial resources and extensive management expertise that result in commercial success for several institutions. SingTel’s investment in mobile operations include, Advanced Info Service (AIS) –Thailand, (21.4%), Bharti Telecom Group – India (30.5%), Optus Telecom – Australia (100%), Globe Telecom – Philippines (44.5%), Pacific Bangladesh Telecom (PBTL) - Bangladesh (45%), Telkomsel – Indonesia (35%) and Warid Telecom – Pakistan (30%). |
Business Nature
Warid is engaged in mobile Voice, SMS & Data services to its
customers throughout Pakistan based
on state-of-the-art GSM technology which is further supported by data services
like GPRS and EDGE. Beside its core
business warid is providing various value added services e.g Mobile Ring Back
Tone, Location Based Service, Int’l Roaming, Interactive Voice Response
services, Black Berry services, Call Blocking, News Updates, Weather forecast,
Horoscopes, Sports update etc.

Importance of MIS
As the telecom business in its nature base on
technology so up-to-date and competitive MIS plan is incorporated to control
business operation. Without automation such kind of business is not possible
manually, even we have unlimited human resource because transaction are on mass
level which being performed by vendor base IT tools.
Major components in MIS
Hardware used
Desktops-Mini computers
Dell GX 280 Desktops and GX260 are used for
officer, Executive & Sr. Executive level employees in every department
except engineering. Below are the specifications of workstation.
3 MHz Processor, 40 GB HDD, 1 GB RAM
Laptops
Laptops are provided of IBM Thinkpad T-400
with below specification from Assistant Manager level employees and for
engineering department entry level employee is eligible for it.
3 Mhz Dual core Processor, 160 GB HDD, 2 GB

Apple Mac Book Air is provided for management
use at VP/ Director & above level.

A specific tool designed to meet core
business operation linking Sales, Customer Services, Finance, Billing, Voice
Traffic monitoring etc.It works as CRM to control end to end business
transaction. It’s a million dollar project designed by international vendor
providing the complete range of products now our management is going to launch
the revised version as TABS Business Suits designed to meet new challenges in
this highly competitive market.
This project was handled by our international
vendor HUAWEI.

Communication devices
Routers
Routers
are used to connect a LAN to a WAN (such as your small network to the Internet)
but they can also be used to connect segments of a large LAN that has been
subnetted into smaller segments.
In
Warid we are using Cisco routers to connect with LAN switches.
Example
we have regional office at Karachi KNN Centre that is networked for 100 users this
interlinked with routers to other LAN functioning at our Karachi call centre-
Business Avenue sharah e faisal.

on a local area network (LAN).
Firewall

based hardware being used to control data traffic access for internal employees
like they are not allowed to use MSN messenger, facebook, youtube etc.
IDS With software firewall:

use to prevent outside hackers mainly installed at our data centre Lahore.
Wireless AP
Warid using Cisco Wireless Access Points to provide facility
of wireless LAN to office employees.
we uses RADIUS encryption methods for wireless security.
Data Centers
Data center is a
place where all IT equipments are placed and installed like SAN, routers,
switches etc.
SAN
Storage Area Network is used to keep warehouse data, it’s a
device which keeps multiple of hard disk to keep mass scale data and support
warehouse server storage on daily basis and for backup Tape Drive being used to
store backup.
IP Telephone:
IPT: Cisco Internet Protocol Phones are being
used by Warid for their internal employees to communicate with each other
within LAN and LANs within Pakistan. IP Phone models are 7912, 7940 & color
7960 for internal communication 5digits individual assigned IP numbers &
same is compatible for inbound & outbound calling facility. This has
eliminated the necessity of fixed line telephone.
Networking types
LAN
Local Area Netowrk is used as switch to access within warid
offices like regional office employees are connected connect through it.
MAN
Metropole Area Network is used
to connect regional office into sub office like under the regional
office there are one call centre located at sharah e faisal, one engineering
office, one logistic centre & three business centers are operational at
different location in Karachi.
WAN
Wide area network is being used
among Karachi offices, Lahore offices & Islamabad office mainly it support
to connect all regional offices divided as South I ,II & III, North,
Central I & II.

Resource Department web portal that has employee policy handbook and also
contains all the HR related forms. These include Employee Requisition Form,
Employee Exit Form, Interview Evaluation Form, Internship Assessment Form,
Advance Request Form, Employee Expense Claim Form, Handing Over Taking Over
Form, Tax Adjustment Form, Dental Reimbursement Form, Employee Grievance Form,
Employee Incident Report Form, Exit Interview Questionnaire, Hospitalization
Reimbursement Form, Intern Requisition Form, Job Change Form, OPD Reimbursement
Form, Provident Fund Withdrawal Form, Training Feedback Form and Training
