TEXTILE INDUSTRY  MUSTAQIM (PVT LMT) INDUSTRY(dyeing and printing)

TEXTILE INDUSTRY

The Textile industry is a term used for industries primarily concerned with the design or manufacture of clothing as well as the distribution and use of textiles. As a major cotton and cotton textile producer, Pakistan looks to build on its strengths and adapt to new challenges. In past cloth was produced in the home, and the excess woven cloth was sold to merchants called clothiers who visited the village with their trains of pack-horses. Some of the cloth was made into clothes for people living in the same area and a large amount of cloth was exported.  The textile and apparel industry is often considered the backbone of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan’s economy-cotton textiles and apparel historically were the focus of the industry, mainly because of the large amount of cotton grown in the country. In fact, Pakistan currently ranks fourth among world cotton producers and third among world cotton consumers.

The process of making cloth depends slightly on the fiber being used, but there are three main steps: preparation of fibers for spinning, spinning, and weaving or knitting. The preparation of the fibers differs the most depending on the fiber used. Flax requires retting and dressing, while wool requires carding and washing. The spinning and weaving processes are very similar between fibers though.

The textile industry is one of the most important sectors of Pakistan. It contributes significantly to the country's GDP, exports as well as employment. It is, in fact, the backbone of the Pakistani economy.

Established Capacity

The textile industry of Pakistan has a total established spinning capacity of 1550 million kilograms of yarn, weaving capacity of 4368 million square meters of fabric and finishing capacity of 4000 million square meters. The textile industry has a production capacity of 670 million units of garments, 400 million units of knitwear and 53 million kilograms of towels. The textile industry has a total of 1221 units engaged in ginning and 442 units engaged in spinning. There are around 124 large units that undertake weaving and 425 small units. There are around 20600 power looms in operation in the textile industry. The textile industry also houses around 10 large finishing units and 625 small units. Pakistan's textile industry has about 50 large and 2500 small garment manufacturing units. Moreover, it also houses around 600 knitwear-producing units and 400 towel-producing units.

Contribution to Exports

According to recent figures, the Pakistan textile industry contributes more than 60% to the country's total exports, which amounts to around 5.2 billion US dollars. The textile industry contributes around 46% to the total output produced in the country. In Asia, Pakistan is the 8th largest exporter of textile products.

Contribution to GDP and Employment

The contribution of the textile industry to the total GDP is 8.5%. It provides employment to 38% of the work force in the country, which amounts to a figure of 15 million. However, the proportion of skilled labor is very less as compared to that of unskilled labor.

Organizations in the Textile Industry

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association is the chief organization that determines the rules and regulations in the Pakistan textile industry.

Opportunities Available

According to world industrial market research, the world demand for textiles is rising at around 2.5%, due to which there is a greater opportunity for rise in exports from Pakistan.

The main markets of textile products in Pakistan are Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, Hyderabad and other major cities of the country. People living in cities have more access to textile market s as compared to those living in far flung areas.
Cotton is the main raw material of textile products. The cotton after picking is transported on tractor trolleys to collection or selling areas.  The textile mills buy the cotton from the farmers and then transports them on trucks to the factories. The surplus cotton is either stored in warehouses or exported to other countries by ship in containers. Cotton is transported on tractor trolleys to dry ports and on trucks to sea ports. The main mode of transportation of textile raw material and finished products is trucks.  Samples of finished products are sent on airplanes whereas large orders are sent in shipments.

Conclusion WITH RESPECT TO INDUSTRY:
Textile industry is a traditional pillar industry for China's economy. Since 1980's, China has developed rapidly in international textile trading and become a significant export country in this field. China textile industry plays an important role in the earning of foreign exchanges and contributes greatly to the development of China's economy.
As a representative of China traditional industry, textile industry has also undergone sharp plunges in economic efficiency due to unfavorable environments and changes both in international & domestic markets in the past few years. Loss incurred in many textile enterprises and export competitiveness of the whole industry was greatly affected.
In recent years, with the industrial adjustment in structure and management, China textile industry has made distinctive achievement.
The output of main products is still ranked the first in the world and the export of the whole industry is still far ahead of other industries. In 1999, the export of textile and clothing began to recover from the after-math of the financial crisis in Southeast Asia. The domestic market became prosperous again and the reform in state-owned enterprises made significant headway. Along with Chinas fastened step toward the entry of WTO, China textile industry is marching toward a brand new development period.
Under the trend of economic globalization and trade liberalization, China textile industry faces severe challenges from opening market and fierce competition. After the entry into WTO, China will find itself in a more cruel battle ground with other big textile exporters in the pursuit of larger market share. Meanwhile, the liberalization in trading will lead to a fiercer competition among domestic textile enterprises. Based on authoritative documents and latest statistics, this report intends to make an analysis and overview on the development status and prospects of China textile industry
